Customer Rating: didn't fit car. By Susan M. Raab "susan" It would have been nice to know exactly what kind of car it fit on. I felt it wasn't as advertised or pictured. As a result, would be leery of buying anything besides books from Amazon again. Customer Rating: Do Not Buy This Product! CHIPS PAINT!!! By M. Stalcup "BooBoo's Mom" My Husband is a researcher, it does not matter what it is he researches everything before he buys anything. He read all the reviews and short of putting a hitch on the back of my 2006 Honda Accord (which is what we bought today)he thought this was the best product for the money. The first thing we discovered was that this bike rack does not work well at all with a spoiler. We put the top of the rack below the spoiler at first and it came loose after 10 mins on the road, so we decided to put it above the spoiler, which did not work out well either but did hold. When we returned home and took the bike rack off I have 3 pea sized chips of paint scraped off the back of my car. I will highly upset about that. This happened on the bottom part where the pads are suppose to prevent that from happening. I would not recommend anyone buy this product unless they want to touch up the paint on their car. I've struggle with the way my bike lays on this rack I cant use all three mount due to the fact that the frames don't support the bike safely and therefore Im only able to use 2 mounts. Also the bands don't secure the bikes well and I've noticed that the bikes move with every bump on the road. Not happy at all. Customer Rating: 4 problems with it, By S. Gutierrez So, let me start off by saying that the directions for installation are horrible! They don't help in the least because there is no diagram showing what each part is and where it goes. The directions are all words! Words like nub and nylon webbing and others that they just assume you know. One black and white photograph that that looks like the one in the image you see when you look at this product here is all you get. And it won't work for all cars. I have a 99 miata, and the side straps don't hold well because of the shape of my trunk. Also, the bike moves around unless you strap it like crazy, which takes so long to do and undo that I might as well walk and forget the damn bike. I did finally get to the park, then struggle to get the bike off of the rack because it is a woman's bike and there is barely enough room under my double slanted bars to slide it in and out of the rack. When I finally got my bike off and got my dog ready to run beside me, I realized, hey, there is nothing to prevent anyone from just slipping the six straps off of my car and stealing my bike rack! So the whole bike ride I'm wondering if I'll still have it when I get back. Luckily it wasn't stolen, but now I have to come up with a way to modify this product so that a) I have easier mounting and unmounting of bike, b)I can quickly tie down the bike to keep it from swinging back and forth while I drive, and c) attach it to the trunk in a way that no one can steal it. It is way too much of a hassle if I have to put that thing in my trunk every time I get to the park. Come on, there's got to be a better product design than that! And they need to re-type those instruction manuals and add diagrams! Customer Rating: Solid rack, good price By Jin Zeng I bought this rack for a camping trip to Redwood National Park in North California. Owners of cars with rear spoilers be cautious: it may need serious consideration of how the upper rests and straps go without rubbing agaist or putting excessive stress on the spoiler. Anyway, I managed to fit it on my 2-door 07 Chevy Cobalt with rear spoiler, neat and tight. I put two bikes on it and there's definitely room for a third. It depends on how you arrange your bikes also. Easy adjustment, and the additional strap in the center really helps to hold wheels of bicyles. My trip from North Oregon to Redwood is 300 miles even one-way, including interstate highway and freeways (lots of up-and-downs and turns). I at first considered one previous review and stopped every other rest area on I-5 to check the rack. But I found it held itself in place supprisingly well. Although I noticed it shaked with bikes from center rear view mirror, well, admittedly that happens with a lot of vehicle components on the road. So after running off interstate, I didn't bother checking it anymore. That's right, 600+ miles round-way without readjusting straps on this thing, even after I ran over a small piece of fallen bumper at a turn on freeway (which completely crashed one of my aftermarket fog lights - god bless me I missed a bigger one one or two yards away). Ouch! But man it didn't loose more than few millimeters if you can tell. There are more expensive products out there. For occasional use, this rack holds its value. I certainly don't work for this company but I do enjoy this trunk mount bicycle rack. Not sure if it's for everyday use though. Just a reminder, use our heads, try and explore its potentials before judging engineering efforts behind a product. Often times, just like using a computer, it is because of faulty operation if it does not work right. McClendon "Tronsta" This was my first bike rack and I was planning on using it mostly around town so I didn't want to spend the usual $130 that most racks seemed to be. I choose this one based off reviews and I'm perfectly happy with it. It's sturdy, well built, and if the time is taken to set it up properly, it doesn't move. You have to pay attention to what you're doing, you can't just set it up haphazardly. But if you take the time to do it right, it's fine. I've had two bikes on there and I could easily have put 3. I have a 26" Cannondale and a 24" Raleigh, both fit no problem next to each other. It does take a little adjusting to get the bikes on correctly but it can be done. It's hard to get a good bike rack for one bike at this price, so getting a rack at this price for 3 bikes is kind of a joke if you think you will be getting a great quality bike rack. I purchased this product with this in mind and as I suspected, the price was to good to be true to receive a great product. It gets the job done however. You will need to spend a good hour tinkering with the hookups to find a good snug fit that will keep the rack in place. Then I tried to follow the instructions as this is my first time installing a bike rack. It is quite confusing -- especially the instruction on how to attach all the straps. Hughes I thought this product fairly well designed and constructed. Easy to use out of the box. As a trunk rack, I expected some light scratching to the trunk surfaces and that is evident after first ride. Do not use this except on a car whose finish doesn't matter. I think the manufacturer should have included a bungee or separate strap to keep front wheels from flopping and causing further damage even though easily obtained. I used this at highway speeds for short distances (12 miles) without incident. I would likely not take a long cross country trip with this rack. Good value and what I expected.
