Mt Cootha Trails
Closest Major City: Brisbane
Distance: 20.00 miles (32.18 KM)
Description: There are many trails in the Gap Creek area. Beginners should probably stick to the fire-roads, some of the singletracks are relativly difficult. HINT:Instead of going up the steep fire-road at the very start, look out for the yellow arrow, and the trail right behind it. It is a much easier way of getting up the hill. If you keep going up that trail, you will come to a sign saying DOGS, and a trail beside it. The sign means that there is a property down that trail, with dogs that bark like crazy if you go near them. Stay away. One track in particular leaves me numb everytime i ride it. Go straight across the park and head up the fire trail on the left. About 3/4 up the track on the right you'll find a small track heading down into the valley. Follow it to the bottom and turn right. "Lantana Downs" appears from here. The track is wide enough for a single rider only and has plenty to test all skill levels. From tight turns to cool drop offs, it's a mixture of speed and adrenaline. Definitely the best single track i've ridden. A great way to start you're day at Gap creek
Directions to the trail: Go to Mt Cootha and get to to Gap Creek Reserve by getting to the top of Cootha and going down the far side (opposite channel 9). You can also get their by Gap Creek Rd (if you have a car) by following the Gap Creek Road until you get to a carpark. All trails (pretty much anyways) lead to the reserve. Just cross the road at the bottom opposite carpark and enter at the big gate. Too easy!
