Jacoby Creek

Closest Major City: Eureka

Distance: 15.00 miles (24.14 KM)

Description:
For the downhill bikers who love speed, high technical difficulty and single track this is the ride for you. You will likely want to use two vehicles, one parked at the bottom to shuttle back to top as it can be ridden several times in a day if you want. The trail begins on a old and very rutty dirt trail with many difficult sections for about one mile. Here you run into the only uphill section of the ride as you make your own trail, depending if your the first of the season to ride it or not. (definitely branches smacking you in the face.) When you come to the top of this short but technical climb you'll find yourself looking down the barrel of a gun. the single track is about 2 feet wide at most and even tighter in places. Along the entire left side is an almost shear drop off cliff, dont look down. If you crash, make sure it is too the uphill side. The old waterbars on the downhill give you about 40 excellent jumps to get some good air, but keep your speed under control as there are several quick turns. You must wear long sleeves on this ride as there are prickly bushes smacking you in the arms and legs the whole way. There are three creek crossings and one you can jump with some great air time, watch out for the old wooden bridge as there are missing sections that could taco your rim, so slow down when you see a bridge. Make sure your brakes are working well before this ride.

Directions to the trail:
Take 101 north to Eureka, take exit in Arcata and drive up Fickle Hill rd to very top, about a 40 minute drive up windy roads. After raods interscts finally, a small clearing on your right has a dirt road going back down hill here. thats wree you begin.
