Deadwood Gulch-Julie Creek Loop
Closest Major City: Lowman
Distance: 24.50 miles (39.42 KM)
Description: The ride starts in the small campground and heads straight up the ridge spine for the first half mile. Most riders will have to do some hiking at times but don't worry because after the first mile the trail levels off a bit so that experts can ride. The trail winds through a ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir forest, offering a spectacular view of the opposite ridge. At mile 7 the trail heads down hill for 2.5 miles before crossing a small wooden bridge and heading back up. At mile 11.3 the trail comes to the trail to Stevens Point. The Julie Creek trail is less than a mile away and is marked. Once on the Julie Creek trail you will treated to a 2500 foot drop over the next 5 miles. Have fun on the switchbacks, but watch out for rocks and other trail users. When you reach the trailhead at the bottom, jump on the road and follow the Deadwood River 7 miles back to the Deadwood Campground.
Directions to the trail: Take Idaho 55 north from Boise to Banks (34 miles). Cross the South Fork Payette and turn right. Follow the Bank-Lowman road to Deadwood Campground (30 miles). Lowman Park is 7 miles away.
