Allamuchy Mt. State Park NORTH

Closest Major City: Byram

Distance: 20.00 miles (32.18 KM)

Description:
Allamuchy NORTH stretches from Waterloo Rd. in Byram/Stanhope north past Cranberry Lake. It is a very large area, with only one map available: from the Park Office. It's not a great map, but it is a necessity. A compass is also recommended here. The "backside"- over on the Cranberry Lake side- is much cooler than the side by Waterloo Rd, but it's all good. Lots of uphills, technical downhills, fast fireroad downhills, and alot of enormous "moab"-type rocks to ride over. The trail is a mess after a good rain. Not recommended for beginners. Novice & up will do fine. The trails are not marked, but if you've got all day, and feel like doing a little "orienteering"...this is the place to get lost for an epic.

Directions to the trail:
Rt. 80 West to exit 25. 2nd traffic light, turn left. A couple of miles in you'll see the trail head- a heavily erroded gravel parking lot- to the right. Even tho there may be alot of cars in the lot, most are only riding the rail-trail, not the actual park trails.
