PSE&G Right-Of-Way
Closest Major City: Ridgewood
Distance: 5.00 miles (8.05 KM)
Description: An abandoned trolley line now serving as a right-of-way for Public Service Electric and Gas utility lines, this trail is broken up at times but still offers a good work out. An enjoyable out and back ride from Waldwick to Glen Rock, NJ along the Ho-Ho-Kus brook and adjoining the back yards of many of the most expensive homes in America. One of the best kept secrets in Bergen County, NJ. Ridgewood High School offers the best parking opportunity along the route and is the mid-point. End points are the intersection of Franklin Turnpike and Wyckoff Avenue in Waldwick, NJ and Harristown Road and Glen Avenue in Glen Rock, NJ. There are several street crossings along the route but you will still be able to keep up a full head of steam. The major inclines are in Glen Rock and Ho-Ho-Kus; the Ridgewood sections are virtually flat. A quick connection may be made in Ridgewood or Glen Rock to the Bergen County Parks Department's wonderful Saddle River bike path system for those who want to add some pavement to the trip as well. The Saddle River bike path is a 10 mile paved loop with no inclines. Start point is Ridgewood and finish point is Fair Lawn, NJ.
Directions to the trail: Garden State Parkway north or south to exit 165. Head west towards Ridgewood on Ridgewood Avenue. Approximately 3.5 miles west of the Parkway, Ridgewood High School will be on your right. Park in the school parking lot. Access to the trail is approximately 500 feet further west on Ridgewood Avenue, between Hermance Place and Southern Parkway.
