Rutgers Ecological Preserve
Closest Major City: Piscataway
Distance: 8.00 miles (12.87 KM)
Description: This is one of the best rides in Middlesex County. Close to Rutgers, it offers something for everyone in the intermediate/advanced range. Steep climbs, fast turns, hard jumps, obstacles and streams are some of the things you'll encounter. There are so many trails to choose from, you won't get bored for a while. Degree of difficulty varies from one trail to the next. Personal favorites includes some side trails that have you climb a steep and rocky hill, then puts you on the fast track down a narrow trail to a stream that you'll cross before you do it all over again. Great riding and close to home.
Directions to the trail: Route 18 North, past Rutgers main campus. Cross over the bridge, and get onto Metlar's Lane (now in Piscataway). Go for about a mile, then make a right hand turn onto Avenue E (Rutgers students know this as Livingston/Kilmer campus). Follow this to the end. Make right onto Road 3, and follow for a little while. You'll see the parking lot on the right. Trails are behind the parking lot.
